My two friends and I, Team Mad Lads, represented the USA in an international challenge hosted by Red Bull. Only 300 teams of 30,000+ applicants were selected to participate in this 7-day journey across Europe using nothing but Red Bull as currency. We went from sleeping in parks in Turin, Italy to sleeping in 5-star hotels in Nice, France during the Monaco F1 Grand Prix. We played soccer darts at the Juventus stadium and got backstage passes to a music festival in Milan, Italy. We struggled for hours to get out of places, battled intense weather, walked for days on end, and got rejected by many. We pulled off a legendary 6 man hitchhike in Oberlungerwitz, Germany, and once found ourselves in a remote part of Italy because we had taken the wrong train.

In the end, we made it.

Our journey was filled with many ups and downs, but one thing was constant, our perseverance through all the bad times knowing that we could accomplish anything. Our success can only be attributed to the people who helped us as they went out of their way to buy us train tickets, bus tickets, plane tickets, food, coffee and even offer their own homes for us to sleep at. It felt strange to trade a red bull can for a sandwich but it wasn’t the can that sold anyone, it was us telling a story.
